About the Artist
Douglas Nathan Williams was born in Endicott, New York. As a child, Doug's family lived on
both the eastern and western coasts of the United States. When his father's work took the
family to Germany for five years, Doug and his two siblings attended German schools where
art was an essential aspect of education. As part of their exposure tto different cultures and
languages, visits to European art museums left a lasting impression.
After returning to the U.S.. Doug was voted "best artist" by his high school graduaing class.
Although Doug studied painting as part of his university training, he ultimately focussed on
clinical psychology as a professional career. Through the years, he maintained his interests in
creativity, perception, music, and art. More specifically, he has studied painting as both a
meditative process and a spiritual practice. Since retiring in 2020. he has more time to devote
to the study and practice of painting.
Doug’s painting style incorporates traditional and impressionist methods. He may
utilize brushes, palette knives, silicone tools, scrapers and brayers to develop unique
mark making during his painting process
