About the Artist
I am a lifelong resident of central Massachusetts, still living on the family farm where I was raised and raised my own three children. My interest in art started very young, and has stayed pretty consistently focused on realism throughout the years. After taking every possible art class in high school, I spent several years attending the Worcester Art Museum continuing education. My formal education focused on figure drawing, human portraits and color theory.
Over the years I have experimented with many different mediums and worked in decorative interior painting and the graphic arts fields. All the while, I continued developing my own style in the fine arts in the background.
For the past several years I have focused primarily on just two mediums, colored pencil and acrylic painting. I love the methodical layers of colored pencils and the mindfulness they require. Acrylics allow for a quicker build up of color and a bit more looseness in my approach, but both appeal perfectly to my love for representational realism. My interest in subject matter has condensed as well. More often than not, a subject that draws me in has eyes. There is something about capturing that elusive spark of life in the eyes of a living creature that never grows old for me.
I very much enjoy doing companion animal portraits for commission as well as the occasional human portrait along with building my own body of work. Reaching a level of capturing a moment, a memory, a little glimmer life, is my ultimate goal as a lifelong artist.
