I created my first quilt in 2010 after viewing the stage play “Gee’s Bend and attending a quilting class conducted by three women from Gee’s Bend.
Although I had creatively sewn several bed quilts since 2010 it was in 2014 that I was convinced by my mentor Edjohnetta Miller, that I was a fiber artist who created improvisational pieces of work. Following conventional quilting rules did not excite me. I loved collage artwork and I yearned for a different type of quilt art so after taking two collage workshops I began creating Collage quilted wall hangings.
I consider myself an improvisational quilt artist who relies heavily on my intuition when considering and creating an image.
My quilted images have won awards and have been photographed for books and magazines, hung in solo and group exhibits as well as in private collections.
I have been blessed and I am always mindful to lift up the gift.
