Mark has had a pen or pencil in hand since his early childhood, and has spent 25 years in the fields of architecture, design and illustration. A native of Michigan and the Grand Traverse region, he discovered a love for the natural world growing up on the shorelines, fields and trails of the midwest and practices now on the east coast as well.

"Art is by nature investigative. By pressing our three-dimensional world onto the plane of a picture, we're forced to think about the processes and principles that create the beauty we see. An artist's lines always plumb deeper than the surface of the work, and invite the observer on a similar forensic journey.

My desire is to create images that invite immersion. I want my work to draw the viewer into the world I'm seeing through vivid storytelling, strong composition and real depth created with compelling treatment of perspective, color and light. My wider wish is to awaken in others the confidence that they too have some gift that should be cultivated and a vision of the world that’s important enough to share; to teach others to breathe in the incredible world around us, and then pick up a brush, pen, fiddle or flute, and PLAY.
