Susan Rood Art
Not only is Susan an accomplished, well respected local artist, she is also a winner of the Lost Acres Vineyard Label Design contest. Susan's images come from within. Rather than starting with a preconceived vision, Susan begins the process, by drawing quickly and spontaneously. The figures she draws frequently reappear. They suggest stories that relate to issues in her life, however, they have a universal quality as well. The narrative for the viewer may not be the same as it is for the artist.
After selecting a drawing to use for a print, the spontaneous process of creation ends. The drawing may be reworked many times before it is carved into a linoleum block. The process of printmaking is almost antithetical to that which is used for the preliminary drawing. The final image implies the duality of artistic expression where inner and outer worlds can meet.
